Although you may be constantly using your sink to clean dishes, that does not mean that your sink is free of bacteria and germs. Water that runs from the faucet down the drain does not sanitize the sink. Follow our instructions to safely clean your sink and garbage disposal.
What you’ll require to do the job
- Baking Soda
- A lime (or lemon)
- Distilled White Vinegar
- Liquid Dishwashing Soap
- Sea Salt
- Sponge
- Ice
- Toothbrush
- Paper Towels
Using a soft rag or a sponge that is not coarse, scrub your sink with a mild soap. You can use glass or all-purpose cleaner if that is all that is available to you, but be sure to not use bleach, ammonia, or any extreme cleaners on stainless steel.
Cleaning the Sink
Step 1:
Rinse out your sink, first thing. Food that contains acid and salt could damage the finish if your sink is composed of stainless steel.
Step 2:
Pour a dash of baking soda on the surface of the sink and make it into a paste.
Step 3:
Soak paper towels in white vinegar and line the sink with them. Remove the paper towels after they have been sitting for 20 minutes.
Step 4:
Using hot water and soap, rinse out the sink.
Step 5:
Wipe down the handles and faucets with soap. To get to difficult-to-reach places, use a toothbrush. A white vinegar soaked cloth can help to remove any remaining spots. When the cleaning is done, rinse the sink one last time, then dry with a soft rag. Now your sink is clean and fresh!
Garbage Disposal Cleaning
Step 1:
Put a half cup of baking soda and 1 cup of white vinegar in the garbage disposal. Boil a kettle or pot of hot water while the mixture in the garbage disposal does it’s job. Once the water is boiled, pour it down the drain to flush out any remnants of the mixture
Step 2:
Add 2 cups of ice to the drain. Pour a cup of salt on top of the ice cubes. Turn on the garbage disposal and run cold water over the ice until all of it is gone. The mixture of ice and salt acts to remove grit and grimy debris from the inside of the disposal.
Step 3:
Slice a lemon or lime. Run warm water and turn the disposal on. Put the lime or lemon down the disposal, one part at a time. The citric acid from the fruit will help kill bacteria in the disposal, while at the same time making your drains smell great.
